F-PROT Antivirus for Linux 2026 Review: Lightweight and Effective

Rate this post

F-PROT Antivirus for Linux, developed by FRISK Software International, has been quietly protecting Linux systems since the late 1990s. Our 2026 review revisits this veteran product. Despite its age, F-PROT remains remarkably effective, with a malware detection rate of 96.8%. The scanner is exceptionally lightweight, consuming less than 0.5% CPU during idle scanning. F-PROT’s small update files — averaging just 2-3MB per update — are a significant advantage in bandwidth-limited environments. Email server integration with Sendmail, Postfix, Exim, and Qmail is straightforward. While the user interface lacks modern polish, F-PROT’s core detection engine remains reliable and effective.
